Transforming Luxury: A Sneak Peek into LA’s Lifestyle Hotel Shift from Hyatt to Marriott

Investment firms Machine Investment Group and Taconic Capital have made a significant move by transforming a 190-key hotel in Hollywood, California. This former Thompson Hotels property is now rebranded as The Hollywood Grande under Marriott International’s Autograph Collection.

The Hollywood Grande aims to provide an enhanced guest experience with midcentury-themed rooms and various unique amenities. According to Eric Rosenthal from Machine Investment Group, this change is part of a broader strategy by both Marriott and Hyatt to grow their lifestyle hotel offerings amidst fierce competition.

Marriott’s Autograph Collection is known for its distinctive designs and local cultural connections. The Hollywood Grande reflects these values with terrazzo bathrooms, smart TVs, and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hollywood Hills. Guests can enjoy a 24-hour gym and a rooftop pool with lounge access.

Dining options include Bar Lis and The Terrace, praised as one of LA’s best rooftop venues, featuring live DJ performances. A lobby bar also offers coffee, cocktails, and light snacks.

Guests can earn rewards through Marriott’s Bonvoy loyalty program, which boasts millions of members. The Hollywood Grande adds to Marriott’s expanding portfolio of over 330 independent hotels globally, further strengthened by their recent $355 million acquisition of CitizenM.

As competition in the lifestyle segment heats up, Hyatt continues to expand its Thompson Hotels brand. This move reflects a dynamic shift in hospitality where experience and personalization are vital for attracting guests.
