GeneDx, known for its expertise in genomic testing, is teaming up with UNC Health. Together, they are the first to implement GeneDx on Aura, a diagnostic tool from Epic. This integration brings advanced genetic testing right into electronic health records (EHR), allowing healthcare providers to order genetic tests and receive results more efficiently.

This launch means health systems can now access vital genetic tests like exome sequencing (ES), whole genome sequencing (WGS), and rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) directly through their EHR systems. The goal? To provide faster, more accurate diagnoses for patients, ultimately speeding up the treatment process.
Dr. Michael Adams from UNC Health points out that combining genetic test results with regular lab results makes it simpler for healthcare providers to find and understand this critical information. This not only enhances patient care but also fosters research opportunities for future improvements.
Katherine Stueland, the CEO of GeneDx, emphasizes their commitment to patient-centered care. By using Aura, they ensure that clinicians can quickly and easily access genetic information, directly at the bedside. With eight out of ten genetic experts relying on GeneDx, it’s clear that their approach is making a significant impact.
As more health systems join the initiative, the incorporation of genomic testing into everyday medical practices will increase. This shift will benefit various fields, including pediatrics, genetics, and neurology.
GeneDx has extensive experience in genomic testing, having sequenced over 750,000 genomes. This rich database plays a pivotal role in understanding rare diseases and finding effective treatments.
