Transforming Patient Care: How DRH Health Elevates EHR Integration with BD Alaris and MEDITECH

Duncan Regional Hospital (DRH Health) has taken a big step in healthcare technology by integrating Becton, Dickinson and Company’s (BD) Alaris electronic medical record (EMR) with their MEDITECH electronic health record (EHR). This partnership is designed to make workflows smoother and keep patients safer while giving healthcare teams more support.

Alaris EMR Interoperability is already in use at over 960 places across the U.S. By bringing this technology into the MEDITECH system, BD aims to improve how infusion systems work across major EHR platforms. This is a win for healthcare organizations nationwide.

Roger Neal, the COO of DRH Health, highlighted a pressing challenge: “With the nursing shortage, this integration helps cut down on repetitive tasks. Nurses will have more time for their patients, which enhances overall efficiency.”

This new setup offers several safety features for complex medication processes. It ensures better documentation, more consistent infusion workflows, and improved satisfaction for both nurses and patients.

BD Alaris goes further by connecting infusion pumps directly to MEDITECH’s Patient Care and Patient Safety systems. Clinicians can quickly scan and verify medications, confirm patient identities, and send infusion orders directly from MEDITECH to the Alaris pumps, all while receiving updates back into the EHR. This helps to reduce errors and allows for almost real-time documentation.

In a world where patient safety is critical, this means that the right medication reaches the right patient at the correct dosage. The integration aims to strengthen safety protocols throughout the entire healthcare process.

Interestingly, similar partnerships are emerging in the healthcare landscape. For instance, in September 2025, Henry Ford Health also announced a collaboration with BD for better prescription services and medication storage. This shows a trend where healthcare institutions are prioritizing innovative solutions to enhance patient care.

As technology continues to evolve, the focus on patient safety and clinician efficiency remains vital. With tools like BD’s Alaris and MEDITECH, hospitals are stepping into a future that promises smoother operations and better health outcomes.
