Glaston, a top player in glass processing and energy-efficient solutions, is teaming up with Miru Smart Technologies. Miru is known for its smart window technology. Together, they’re focused on advancing dynamic electrochromic windows, also known as eWindows.
“We are dedicated to boosting new technologies in the glass industry. Supporting Miru with our glass processing expertise is exciting. Their innovative approach has the potential to create more cost-effective and reliable switchable tinted glass,” said Sasu Koivumäki, Glaston’s Chief Sales Officer.
“Glaston has a rich history of glass innovation. We’re thrilled to partner with them to scale up our energy-efficient windows,” said Curtis Berlinguette, CEO of Miru. “Our eWindows adapt to their surroundings, making them suitable for various markets. With Glaston’s help in technology and manufacturing, we aim to speed up our market entry.”
The eWindow technology adjusts glass tint using electricity, allowing natural light in while reducing heat and glare. This can cut air-conditioning needs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and boost energy efficiency in buildings by about 20%. It can even enhance the driving range of electric vehicles by up to 10%.
Glaston and Miru are enhancing their technologies to expand eWindow production. Development is taking place at Glaston’s R&D center in Tampere, Finland, where they’ll combine Miru’s materials with Glaston’s equipment for glass processing, bending, heat treatment, and laminating.
For Miru, this partnership means a more automated manufacturing process, quicker market entry, and new growth opportunities, especially in the automotive and building sectors.
Miru’s eWindow technology was showcased at the Glaston booth during the glasstec 2024 exhibition.
