CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State University made headlines with a remarkable $4 million anonymous donation. This is the largest gift in the university’s history and will help build a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) center on its Claremore campus.
University leaders are excited. They believe this new facility will better prepare students for their future careers. Isaac McNutt, a senior STEM student, shared his enthusiasm, saying it’s been a fantastic experience so far.
“This new center will be a game changer,” he remarked. It aims to enhance academic opportunities and attract more students to the university.
Steve Valencia, the university’s vice president for development, added that the new center would not only benefit students but also support the local workforce in northeast Oklahoma. “It’s really going to meet their needs and help this area grow economically,” he explained.
The STEM center will occupy a 44,000-square-foot space with modern labs and hands-on learning areas. It will feature specialized facilities for robotics, chemical engineering, and other advanced sciences. Additionally, the building will house a new nutritional science program.
Recent surveys show that STEM education is vital for economic growth, with a projected 11 million job openings in the tech sector by 2026 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Investing in such programs at the university level can significantly uplift local economies.
McNutt eagerly anticipates the positive impact of this investment on the university’s growth. “This will help us see other programs expand, making it an even more appealing place for students,” he said.
Construction is set to begin in March, with plans for classes to start by spring 2028. This new chapter for Rogers State University reflects a commitment to providing students with high-quality learning environments, which will ripple out to benefit the entire region.
