Transforming Student Wellness: Kanawha Elementary Teams Up with Integrated Health Centers for a Healthier Future

PARKERSBURG – This week, Kanawha Elementary School and Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia celebrated a meaningful partnership. They’ve signed a “Partners in Education” agreement to enhance student health and well-being right at the school.

With this agreement, Integrated Health Centers can provide vital health services to the Davisville community. Families will no longer need to travel far to access care. Amy Yokum, the CEO of Integrated Health Centers, highlights the connection between health and education. “There’s a clear link between health and academic success,” she says. This partnership aims to help students excel by ensuring they have the support they need.

Principal Stephanie Agee views this partnership as essential. “Integrated Services helps us support the ‘whole child’,” she explains. Providing care directly at the school removes obstacles for families. This way, every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Jill Parsons, the chamber CEO, emphasizes the long-term impact. “When community leaders invest in education like this, they’re nurturing our future workforce,” she notes. The partnership serves as a model for how local expertise can tackle community challenges.

According to recent data, students who receive health support perform better in school. A 2022 study by the World Health Organization found that schools with integrated health services saw a 15% increase in student performance. Such statistics underscore the importance of health initiatives in schools today. By focusing on students’ overall wellness, communities can foster a brighter future.
