Transforming the Future: iSAT India’s Innovative Switching Technologies Revolutionizing the Indian Transmission Sector

In a significant move for India’s energy sector, COELME-EGIC from Italy and France has partnered with Southern States from the USA and iSAT India. This joint venture aims to bolster India’s power transmission and railway electrification efforts.

COELME-EGIC is now a minority stakeholder in iSAT India, joining its Board of Directors. This marks a commitment to support India’s growing needs in transmission and distribution infrastructure. Their plan involves localizing the production of high-voltage equipment, starting with disconnectors and railway switches, all within a new facility in Haridwar.

The new 30,000 sq. ft. manufacturing unit is expected to begin operation by 2026. This expansion positions India as a key player in the global supply chain for high-voltage technology. iSAT has been delivering high-quality engineering, gaining recognition for its work in transmission, distribution, and testing facilities since it was founded in 1998.

About the companies: COELME and EGIC combine decades of experience in high-voltage systems, with a strong presence in European markets. Southern States, established in 1916, specializes in high-voltage disconnect switches and protective technologies with a focus on enhancing grid resilience.

CEO Sudhanshoo Agarwal of iSAT India expressed, “This partnership supports the Government of India’s initiatives for self-reliance. By localizing these technologies, we’ll improve India’s grid and railway infrastructures.”

Francesco Basso, Chairman of CoelmeEgic, added, “India’s infrastructure is evolving rapidly, and we see iSAT as a capable partner. Our goal is to contribute our expertise long-term.”

The collaboration promises several benefits, including:

  • Local production of high-voltage equipment
  • Reduced reliance on imports
  • Technology transfer
  • Enhancement of India’s electric grid and railway systems

As India taps into renewable energy and expands its grid, this joint venture is set to meet both domestic and international needs.

Experts highlight the national significance of such initiatives. According to a report from the Ministry of Power, the government has allocated substantial funds for infrastructure projects, emphasizing the importance of modernizing energy capabilities for a sustainable future.

This partnership not only highlights advancements in high-voltage equipment but also reflects a deeper commitment to developing local industries. With current trends showing an increasing focus on self-reliance, the impact of this venture could be far-reaching.
