After the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans 23-14 in the playoff game, Patrick Mahomes couldn’t help but praise Travis Kelce. “You know 87 was gonna show up during a big moment, and he did,” Mahomes said. “Everyone was asking, where’s Travis? I think he showed the world exactly where he’s at.”
Kelce had an outstanding game, catching seven passes for 117 yards and scoring a touchdown. He played a key role in sealing the victory for the Chiefs in the fourth quarter. Mahomes finished with 177 passing yards, with most of those thrown to Kelce.
Kelce contributed significantly to the team’s offense, accounting for over half of their total 212 yards. This performance was particularly impressive considering he struggled to reach 100 receiving yards in the regular season.
Throughout the 2024 season, Kelce caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns, showing that while his numbers dipped, he remains a standout player at his position. He was selected for his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl but did fall short of 1,000 receiving yards for two years in a row after achieving that milestone from 2016 to 2022.
Despite these challenges, Kelce continues to shine in the postseason. Before this game, he averaged 86.5 receiving yards per game in playoff matches, significantly higher than his regular-season average of 69.4 yards. In the previous playoff season, he made an impact with 32 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns.
As the Chiefs seek a third straight championship, Kelce seems ready to give it his all once again.
