Travis Wells Shines in New Sport: Discover His Incredible Shot Put Journey with Quabbin

Travis Wells has wrapped up his high school football journey with the Quabbin Panthers, leaving a mark as a talented lineman. As he prepares for college football next year, he is weighing offers from Curry College and Western New England University.

Even though the football season has ended, Travis is keeping busy. Instead of succumbing to “Senioritis,” he’s competing in indoor and outdoor track and field. This sport has not only kept him active but has also helped him improve his football skills.

In track, Travis focuses on the shot put indoors and both shot put and discus when the weather warms up. Initially, football was his main passion, but he decided to join the outdoor track team one spring just for fun. It turned out to be a great decision, as he discovered a new talent.

Travis credits much of his progress to Coach Mike Besaw, who also coaches the football team. Their relationship has blossomed over the seasons, and Travis appreciates the guidance he’s received.

“Having him all three seasons has been great. I feel like I’ve built a personal relationship with him,” Travis said.

Coach Besaw sees a strong connection between throwing and playing football. He’s noted that the skills needed for shot put, like footwork and explosiveness, directly translate to being an effective lineman.

Currently, Travis’s main focus is the discus throw for the spring season, but right now, he’s concentrating on honing his shot put technique. He has shown impressive growth this season, having already qualified for the state meet.

As he looks ahead, Travis aims to excel at the state competition and hopes to qualify in both shot put and discus events in the spring. Coach Besaw praises Travis’s hard work: “He’s taken the bull by the horns and made himself better. It’s a credit to him.”

With determination and support, Travis Wells is poised for a bright future both on and off the field.
