We’re just a few days away from March, but Tre Holloman of No. 8 Michigan State is already bringing the excitement. On Wednesday, he made a jaw-dropping, half-court shot at the buzzer to defeat No. 16 Maryland, ending the game with a tie of 55-55.

With less than three seconds left, Michigan State grabbed a rebound from Ja’Kobi Gillespie’s missed shot. They quickly passed the ball to Holloman, who launched it from way beyond the three-point line. Just after the buzzer sounded, the ball swished through the net, leading to a wild celebration on the Spartans’ bench. Meanwhile, Maryland fans were left in disbelief.
This incredible shot marks the second time in five games that Michigan State has scored a half-court buzzer beater against Maryland. It’s becoming a thrilling pattern!
After the game, Holloman shared, “I saw the rim and the shot clock winding down, so I just had to take the shot. We practice those, and thankfully it went in.” In the game, he had struggled a bit, hitting only 2 of 11 shots before coming up big at the end. Overall, he scored nine points, along with three assists and two rebounds.
His last-second heroics were vital as Michigan State had been leading by seven points just a couple of minutes earlier. Maryland closed the gap, with Gillespie scoring six of their last seven points. Michigan State didn’t manage to score again until Holloman’s winning shot.
This victory marks Michigan State’s fourth straight win, and they’re gearing up for a challenging game against No. 11 Wisconsin on Sunday.
