Troy, Alabama – The Troy men’s tennis team had a fantastic day against West Alabama, winning both matches with scores of 4-0 and 6-1.
In the morning match, Troy (now 4-2) started strong. Freshmen Ryusei Miyazato and Steph Tavares Noale teamed up to secure a 6-4 win on Court 1. Meanwhile, junior Luciano Alcocer and sophomore Thiago Drozdowski dominated with a 6-2 victory on Court 3.
As singles began, sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto quickly made his mark, winning the first singles point. Tavares Noale and freshman Ausias Martin Melo followed suit, adding to Troy’s lead.
By the afternoon, the Trojans aimed to ride their winning streak into the second match. They again excelled in doubles, but the UWA Tigers pushed back hard in singles. Graduate Afonso Portugal managed to claim a point for UWA, defeating senior Yeray Andres Pastor. Still, Troy maintained control, winning the remaining five singles matches, highlighted by Sakamoto’s impressive 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Next up, the Trojans will travel to Georgia to face Kennesaw State at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
