Troy University Named One of the Top Military-Friendly Online Colleges for 2025

Troy University has earned a spot on the 2025 list of Best Military Friendly Online Colleges, highlighted by OnlineU. This platform helps students make wise choices about their education.

OnlineU evaluated over 2,600 colleges that participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. The selection criteria focused on how well schools support military and online students. Only a small number, less than 2 percent, made the cut, and TROY is proud to be one of them.

Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of TROY, expressed pride in the university’s longstanding support for military personnel and their families. He noted, “Freedom is not free. Our military safeguards democracy,” emphasizing the unique needs of military students.

Since 1950, TROY has been dedicated to serving those in uniform, including their spouses and dependents. The university claims over 60 flag officers among its alumni and maintains a presence near military bases around the globe, offering online courses for all service branches.

Troy University goes the extra mile for active-duty service members, veterans, and their families through the TROY for Troops Center. This center is designed to meet the specific needs of military-affiliated students. It features student lounges, workspaces, and supports organizations like the SALUTE Honor Society and the Student Veteran Association.

In addition to this support, TROY offers a Military and Family Scholarship, which caps tuition fees at $250 per credit hour for spouses and dependents of active military members. Recently, the scholarship has been extended to cover all Ph.D. programs and academic certificates.

Moreover, the university provides a 10 percent tuition discount and waives application fees for veterans and their families to honor their service.

Besides the recent ranking, TROY has consistently been recognized by publications like U.S. News and World Report and Military Times. Such accolades reflect its commitment to military students and their educational journeys.

Interestingly, a 2023 survey by the American Council on Education found that 87% of military-affiliated students prioritize institutions that offer flexible online learning options. TROY’s commitment to these offerings aligns perfectly with the preferences of today’s military students. This approach not only helps diversify its student body but also meets the growing demand for accessible education.

Ultimately, Troy University stands out as a beacon of support and opportunity for military students. Its unique programs and strong community provide a solid foundation for those balancing education with service.
