The Trump administration is working on a new travel ban for specific countries that could be even stricter than previous bans. According to two officials familiar with the discussions, the proposal includes a “red” list of countries whose citizens may be prevented from entering the U.S.
This list mainly targets countries already affected by earlier travel restrictions during Trump’s first term. Some of those countries are Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Now, there are plans to add Afghanistan to this list as well.
Shawn VanDiver, who leads a nonprofit helping resettle Afghans that supported U.S. forces, stated he was informed of a complete travel ban targeting Afghan citizens. His organization issued an urgent message advising Afghans outside the U.S. with valid visas to return immediately. This concern aligns with reports indicating that Afghanistan is likely to face a total travel ban soon.
