WASHINGTON — On Saturday, President Trump honored the 2025 Kennedy Center recipients with their medals in the Oval Office. He described this year’s group as “perhaps the most accomplished and renowned class” ever.
The honorees include actor Sylvester Stallone, singers Gloria Gaynor and George Strait, the rock band Kiss, and actor-singer Michael Crawford. Trump expressed his admiration for them, calling them “incredible people” who represent the pinnacle of American arts and culture.
“This group has inspired millions,” he stated, beaming in a tuxedo. Each honoree received a unique gold medal crafted by Tiffany & Co., featuring the Kennedy Center’s emblem and their names.

During the ceremony, each honoree showcased their personality. George Strait, for example, was playful with his cowboy hat. Trump joked, “If you want to leave it on, you can.” Strait eventually took it off.
Trump praised the individual contributions of each artist. He hailed Crawford as “a great star of Broadway” for his work in “Phantom of the Opera” and labeled Gaynor the “disco queen.” His enthusiasm was evident as he referred to Stallone as “one of the true, great movie stars.”
The 2025 Selection Process
Notably, this year’s honorees were the first selected under Trump’s leadership. Traditionally, a bipartisan committee handled these decisions. Trump revealed that he was “about 98% involved” in the selection process, showcasing a more hands-on approach than his predecessors.
He stated, “These artists have made an indelible mark on American life,” highlighting their influence across various genres in entertainment.
The Kennedy Center Honors ceremony set for Sunday promises not only tributes but exciting performances, scheduled to broadcast later in December on CBS and Paramount+. Trump is set to attend and host, a novel role for a sitting president.
In an interesting twist, Trump predicted this year’s broadcast would break viewership records. “This will be the highest-rated show they’ve ever done,” he confidently announced.
