Trump Launches Investigation into Biden’s Presidency: What’s Behind the Growing Tension?

**

U.S. President Donald Trump has asked his administration to look into Joe Biden’s actions during his presidency. Trump claims that Biden’s team hid details about his “cognitive decline” and raised concerns about Biden’s use of an autopen for signing important documents, like pardons.

In response, Biden firmly stated, “I made all the decisions during my presidency. Any hint that I didn’t is simply false.” A long-standing practice, the use of an autopen to sign documents has been accepted by both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Trump, in a memo, labeled the situation a significant scandal, suggesting that the public was kept in the dark about who was truly in charge. “The American public was shocked, while Biden’s signature appeared on countless crucial documents,” he claimed.

He instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House counsel David Warrington to lead the investigation. However, it’s uncertain how far this will go, yet it highlights Trump’s ongoing fixation on Biden, particularly after their contest in 2020, which Trump still claims was unfair.

Trump argues that Biden’s aides were overstepping their bounds. Even though the autopen has been a common tool for years, Trump insists it undermines presidential authority.

Near the end of his term, Biden issued pardons, including some for his family members, aiming to protect them from possible repercussions. Others who received pardons were linked to the January 6 Capitol riot investigation.

Trump often calls for investigations into his opponents. Notably, he has targeted figures like Chris Krebs, a cybersecurity official, and Miles Taylor, a Homeland Security official, both of whom challenged his claims about election fraud.

Meanwhile, Republican House Oversight Chairman James Comer has requested interviews with Biden’s former aides, alleging they were involved in a substantial “cover-up.” He believes these aides hold vital insights about Biden’s state of mind and decision-making.

Comer’s list of interviewees includes senior advisers like Mike Donilon and Anita Dunn. He has suggested that subpoenas may be issued if they do not comply voluntarily. He mentioned they will release their findings to ensure transparency.

Democrats view this investigation as a diversion. Rep. Jamie Raskin noted that Comer previously attempted impeachment and failed. “It’s time to move on from those efforts,” Raskin said.

On the other hand, some Republicans are passionate about pursuing this investigation. Rep. Brandon Gill remarked, “The people deserve to know the truth.”

The focus has shifted to Biden’s last executive actions, which included new federal rules and pardons that Republicans argue could be invalid. Comer referenced the book “Original Sin” by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which highlights concerns about Biden’s age and mental sharpness. They noted that multiple people were making key decisions during Biden’s presidency, with Biden being merely a part of the decision-making team.

Biden’s family has strongly rejected these claims, with his granddaughter, Naomi, calling the book “political fairy smut.” Biden had previously withdrawn from the presidential race last summer after a challenging debate performance against Trump, which raised questions about his mental state and age.

This ongoing dialogue around Biden’s leadership and Trump’s claims illustrates the deep divisions in American politics. As investigations and debates continue, the landscape of political discourse remains charged and complex.
