On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced plans to send ICE agents to airports across the U.S. starting Monday. This decision comes amid a standoff between Senate Republicans and Democrats over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that if Democrats do not support airport security, ICE will step in. He stated, “I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, ‘GET READY.’” He also mentioned that the role would involve the immediate arrest of illegal immigrants.
This announcement follows a recent Senate vote where Democrats blocked Republican efforts to fund DHS. Since mid-February, the shutdown has affected Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers, leading to unpaid workers and long security lines at airports.
