Trump Plans Nationwide Address Amid Declining Popularity and Growing Economic Worries

President Trump is set to give a primetime address tonight. His approval ratings are lagging, sitting below 40%. Many Americans are feeling negative about the economy.

While Trump has joked about Democrats’ focus on affordability, their success in recent elections shows that economic issues resonate with voters. Recently, he tried to connect with supporters by making claims about improving their wallets. In Pennsylvania, he spoke about bigger tax returns next April due to his policies and also introduced “Trump accounts” for children born between 2025 and 2028.

However, calling the economy “A+++++” in a recent interview raised eyebrows, even among some conservatives. Many felt it didn’t reflect the reality most people are experiencing.

Tonight’s address is another chance for Trump to reshape the economic dialogue. According to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the speech will touch on several issues. She highlighted topics like border security and lowering gas prices as key points of focus.

Recent statistics from the NPR PBS News Marist Poll reveal that 45% of Americans list rising prices as their top economic worry. Housing costs are a distant second at 18%. This concern is significant, especially given that the tariffs imposed by Trump have contributed to soaring prices. Jerome Powell, the Chair of the Federal Reserve, indicated that inflation is primarily affecting goods rather than services and is linked to tariff-affected sectors.

Trump’s next chance to engage directly with his audience will come this Friday when he delivers a speech in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. By addressing the economy openly, he hopes to connect better with voters struggling to improve their financial situations.
