Trump’s Education Department Cancels 0 Million in ‘Woke’ Spending: What It Means for U.S. Schools

Contracts and Grants Canceled by the U.S. Department of Education

February 15, 2025 – WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Education made a significant announcement today.

They have canceled more than $350 million in contracts and grants aimed at various Regional Educational Laboratories and Equity Assistance Centers. These funds were originally meant to support research, development, and technical assistance in education.

The Department ended 10 contracts worth $336 million with Regional Educational Laboratories. These contracts were intended to help schools through applied research and technical support. However, a review found that many of these contracts were mismanaged and driven by ideological agendas, rather than focusing on the needs of students and taxpayers. For instance, the Regional Educational Laboratory Midwest encouraged schools in Ohio to conduct “equity audits” and engage in discussions about equity.

Looking ahead, the Department plans to establish new contracts that will better meet educational needs and improve student outcomes. These efforts aim to provide genuine support to school districts, state education departments, and all education stakeholders.

In addition to this, the Department also terminated $33 million in grants to four Equity Assistance Centers. These grants had funded training on topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Critical Race Theory, and gender identity for state and local education agencies, as well as school boards.

This decision reflects a commitment to ensure that educational funding is used effectively, prioritizing the interests of students and families.
