Some were eager to bring up Trump’s comments, particularly his labeling of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a “dictator.” However, when the opportunity arose, the topic never came up, according to sources who attended the meeting.
Thune stated he supports “a peaceful outcome in Ukraine” and believes the administration is working towards that goal. He also noted that Trump speaks for himself regarding the controversial comments about Zelensky.
This political landscape shows how divided opinions are within the Republican Party. Some senators feel uneasy about Trump’s moves but hesitate to confront him directly, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty about America’s role in the world, especially concerning relationships with traditional allies.
