Truro City manager John Askey praised his team’s grit after they rallied from a goal down to defeat Aveley 2-1 in the National League South. This win marks their third consecutive unbeaten match.
Aveley took the lead when Brooklyn Kabongolo found the net in the 60th minute. However, Truro quickly responded with Sam Sanders scoring just two minutes later, finishing off a long throw from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain. Tom Harrison sealed the victory for Truro in the 74th minute, scoring with another header from an Oxlade-Chamberlain throw.
Askey acknowledged the challenges of the match. “The pitch was in poor condition, making it hard for players to feel comfortable,” he said in an interview. He commended his players for their determination and ability to come back after going behind.
This match kicks off a series of games against teams lower in the standings. Truro sits just two points behind leaders Torquay United and is tied with Boreham Wood, though they have played more matches than those at the top.
Askey emphasized the importance of the upcoming games. “We have winnable matches ahead, and if we can secure a few victories, we’ll gain momentum and improve our position in the table,” he stated. He also noted that while some top teams may stumble, it’s essential for Truro to focus on their own performance and continue winning.
