Tulane Women’s Golf Shines at The Judson Tournament

Tulane’s women’s golf team kicked off The Judson tournament in style, leading after the first two rounds with an impressive score of 565 (-11). Four players finished under par, showcasing their skills and teamwork.

Freshman Sophia Macias stood out, finishing the day with a score of 139 (-5). Her rounds of 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) positioned her in second place overall. A highlight for Macias was her remarkable 11 birdies, tying her for the most in the tournament. She also excelled on par threes, with an average of 2.75 strokes.

Gabriella Gilrowski wasn’t far behind, ending the day tied for fourth. She scored 141 (-3) with rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2), leading the Green Wave on par fours with an average of 3.85.

Francesca Pompa had the best round of the day for Tulane, starting strong with a 67 (-5) but finishing with a 75 (+3) for a total of 142 (-2), placing her in a tie for seventh. She matched nine birdies, tied for third in the tournament.

Sophia Chen climbed the leaderboard, finishing 10th with a score of 143 (-1). After a slower first round (74), she rebounded with a solid 69 (-3) in the second.

Cristina Albertazzi rounded out the starters at tied for 25th with a score of 150 (+6), including five birdies.

Luz Schubert, competing as an individual, wrapped up her day with a score of 155 (+11) in her first outing of the season, recording four birdies.

Looking ahead, Tulane will complete the tournament with the final round starting Tuesday at 8 a.m. alongside Southern Miss and Central Arkansas.

This performance comes during an exciting time in women’s sports, where golf participation is growing. According to the National Golf Foundation, female golfers increased by 20% over the past few years, highlighting a trend of women breaking barriers in the sport.
