Tulane University Appoints Will Hall as Head Coach to Elevate Green Wave Football: What This Means for the Future

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University has announced that Will Hall will be the new head football coach. Hall, who returned to Tulane in 2025 as the Passing Game Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach, brings a wealth of experience to the role. David Harris, the Director of Athletics, made the announcement on Monday.

Hall has an impressive track record, boasting 70 collegiate wins and seven winning seasons. Fans can catch his official introduction on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club in Yulman Stadium. The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed on ESPN+ and Tulane’s YouTube channel.

Hall first joined Tulane as Offensive Coordinator from 2019 to 2020. During that time, the team set multiple offensive records. His offense in 2025 was particularly dynamic, featuring four receivers with 30 or more catches. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw for nearly 3,000 yards with 14 touchdowns, while Shazz Preston led the team with four touchdown catches.

“We are excited to welcome Will Hall as our head coach,” Harris said. “His character and leadership are vital to us. With his extensive experience, we believe he is the right person to lead Tulane Football.”

Before returning to Tulane, Hall coached at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he led the Golden Eagles to a 38-24 victory in the 2022 Lending Tree Bowl against Rice. Earlier in that season, Southern Miss faced off against Tulane, pulling off a narrow 27-24 win. Hall’s adaptability was evident as he navigated conference changes while building a solid program.

“I am honored to be the head coach at Tulane,” Hall remarked. “This place means a lot to me. I respect its history and community, and I’m eager to build on our past successes.”

Originally from Amory, Mississippi, Hall made a significant impact at Tulane, helping the team achieve a No. 11 national rank in rushing offense back in 2019. In that season, the Green Wave amassed over 3,162 rushing yards, breaking previous program records. The 2019 season saw them rush for more than 200 yards in nine different games.

Tulane University President, Michael A. Fitts, expressed confidence in Hall’s leadership at a time when the university is seeing remarkable growth. “He takes the helm at a time of tremendous success, not just in athletics but across the board,” Fitts noted.

Statistically, Tulane continued its offensive success in 2020, finishing 17th in national rushing offense and 22nd in scoring offense. This trend highlights Hall’s ability to build productive teams. The impact of strong leadership on sports teams is notable; studies show that effective coaching can significantly enhance team performance and morale.

Before his time at Tulane, Hall also coached at Memphis, where he helped the Tigers achieve school records in rushing touchdowns and total rushing yards. Under his guidance, Memphis ranked in the top 10 nationally in several offensive categories.

Hall has a rich coaching history, including a successful tenure at West Georgia, where his teams made playoff appearances and earned conference titles. His coaching journey reflects years of dedication to building successful teams and developing players.

In addition, Hall’s playing days are impressive. He was a standout at North Alabama, winning the Harlan Hill Trophy, which honors the best player in NCAA Division II. His firsthand experiences as a player help him relate to his athletes, making him an effective coach.

As Tulane prepares to take on Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff on December 20, excitement is building around Hall’s leadership. This matchup will be a true test of the team’s resilience and strategy under the new head coach.

With Hall at the helm, Tulane fans can expect a commitment to hard work, tradition, and excellence both on and off the field. Now, it’s time for Tulane Football to embark on its next chapter.
