Türkiye is gearing up to host COP31, the next big climate conference, focusing on energy security and development. Murat Kurum, the Environment Minister, sees this as more than just a meeting. During a recent chat with Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Kurum emphasized that Türkiye’s industries still rely heavily on fossil fuels, which contribute about 40% of global emissions. COP31 takes place in November, mainly in Antalya, with a significant summit in Istanbul. Nearly 200 nations are expected to discuss vital topics like emission targets, climate finance, and carbon markets, crucial for our collective climate goals.
