TIFTON, Ga. — Two men faced charges after a burglary at Pepsi’s Food Mart in Tifton. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 4, around 10:15 a.m., as reported by the Tifton Police Department.
The suspects, Aarinton Griffin, 36, from Roswell, and Labrinzo Stephens, 48, from Atlanta, were identified through video surveillance. The footage showed them arriving in a newer-model black Chevrolet Blazer around 7:15 a.m. One suspect distracted the cashier while the other broke into the office, stealing a significant amount of cash.
After the burglary, the men were seen leaving the store and merging onto I-75 northbound. Thanks to assistance from the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office, they were located and charged with second-degree burglary.
This incident highlights an alarming trend in retail crime. According to recent data from the National Association of Shoplifting Prevention, approximately $13 billion is lost annually in the U.S. due to shoplifting. These crimes not only harm businesses financially but also impact employee morale and customer safety.
Law enforcement experts suggest that surveillance systems and employee training can significantly reduce such incidents. Investing in proper security measures can serve as a deterrent to potential thieves.
As communities like Tifton work to address these issues, staying informed and aware can help residents play a role in preventing crime.
