The U.S. Marshals Service has stepped in to help locate actor Timothy Busfield after serious allegations arose involving child abuse in New Mexico. An arrest warrant was issued last week following reports from two children who claim Busfield inappropriately touched them while working on the Fox series “The Cleaning Lady,” where he acted and directed.
Busfield has been hard to find since then. The Marshals are collaborating with local police to investigate these claims further. A lawyer for Busfield hasn’t responded to requests for comments yet.
According to legal documents, the incidents reportedly occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024. The parents of the two boys—aged 7 and 8—have stated that Busfield allegedly touched them several times inappropriately. One child described being touched on intimate parts. An independent investigation by Warner Bros. was conducted after complaints surfaced in February 2025, but the studio found no evidence to support the allegations, including accusations that Busfield kissed a child during a haircut session in the makeup trailer.
In a November interview, Busfield claimed that tension arose after the boys weren’t brought back for the show’s final season. He suggested that the boys’ mother might be seeking revenge over this.
Busfield is well-known for his roles in popular TV series like “The West Wing” and “Thirtysomething,” and for his role in the movie “Field of Dreams.” He won an Emmy in 1991 for his performance in “Thirtysomething.” He is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, who deleted her Instagram shortly after the allegations became public.
This situation has sparked a broader conversation about child safety in the entertainment industry. Recent studies show that many parents are increasingly concerned about their children’s safety in such environments, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight. Experts suggest that establishing clear guidelines and maintaining open communication could help protect young actors on set.
As this case unfolds, it will remain crucial to monitor the impact it has on the community and the industry as a whole. For more on the effects of these trends in child safety, you can explore the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for resources and statistics.
