Summary
- Chrome is switching to Manifest V3 and is actively disabling Manifest V2 extensions, including popular ones like uBlock Origin. Users see warnings stating “no longer supported.”
- Even with these warnings, users can briefly re-enable disabled extensions in Chrome’s management settings. This offers a short-term solution.
- However, this fix is only temporary. Google’s transition to V3 means that V2 extensions will stop working entirely, affecting the full functionality of uBlock Origin and others.

Google is pushing forward with its Manifest V3 for Chrome extensions. Since last June, they’ve been removing outdated Manifest V2 extensions.
This change particularly affects popular ad-blockers that depend on V2, with uBlock Origin being one of the most well-known currently facing these issues.

Users can manually install uBlock Origin Lite
Since October, many users have been able to use uBlock Origin despite the warnings, but that has changed recently.
Many users on Reddit, particularly in subreddits like r/Chrome, r/Adblock, and r/Browsers, are now facing the warning: “uBlock Origin was turned off… Chrome recommends that you remove it.”
uBlock Origin still lives on, at least for now
uBlock Origin isn’t alone in this. Other extensions that depend on Manifest V2 are facing similar problems. However, despite the warnings, many of these extensions still work.
According to Android Authority, users can go to ‘Manage extensions’ in Chrome and manually turn on disabled extensions. This is still possible for uBlock Origin, as confirmed by several users. Just keep in mind that this could change, and eventually, the V2 version of uBlock Origin will stop functioning altogether.
Google’s Chromium Blog mentions that this temporary fix may not last. Users should be aware that eventually they won’t be able to toggle their V2 extensions back on at all.
