UConn Health and UnitedHealthcare Reach Agreement
Farmington, CT – UConn Health and UnitedHealthcare have announced a multi-year agreement. This deal aims to provide fair compensation for delivering high-quality medical care to Connecticut residents. Dr. Andy Agwunobi, the CEO of UConn Health, highlighted the importance of collaboration between insurers and providers. UConn Health stands out as Connecticut’s only public academic medical center. UnitedHealthcare members will continue to receive care from UConn providers and access services at John Dempsey Hospital.
Looking ahead, negotiations with Aetna are still ongoing. Dr. Agwunobi urged Aetna to take inspiration from UnitedHealthcare’s approach. He emphasized the need for fair agreements that reflect the true costs of medical care. When insurers do not adequately compensate health providers, the burden often shifts to patients and taxpayers.
