UFO Crash and Explosion Shocks Residents of Eastern Poland: What We Know So Far

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Early Wednesday, a mystery object crashed into a cornfield in eastern Poland and exploded. Local news sources reported the incident around 2 a.m. near the village of Osiny. Police found debris—burned metal and plastic—but thankfully, no one was injured. The blast did shatter windows in nearby homes.

Poland’s Armed Forces said there were no records of airspace violations from Ukraine or Belarus at that time. Initially, officials speculated the explosion might have come from an old engine part. However, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified that the object was likely a drone. An investigation is ongoing to determine if it was military or involved in smuggling.

Lublin District Prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz reported that multiple investigators, including civilian and military teams, are examining the crash site. “We have adequate resources, including the army,” he mentioned, expressing hope that the operation might conclude by evening.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine over three years ago, Poland has faced increased airspace incursions, raising concerns among EU and NATO members. This situation highlights the ongoing proximity of conflict and the importance of vigilance in airspace security.
