UGA Athletic Director Josh Brooks Gets Contract Extension
The University of Georgia has made a significant decision regarding its Athletic Director, Josh Brooks. In a recent teleconference, the executive committee unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for him, pushing his contract to 2031. This move comes as a recognition of his strong leadership over the past five years.
UGA President Jere W. Morehead praised Brooks, saying he has become one of the most respected athletic directors in the nation. Brooks’ salary will also increase by $125,000 annually, escalating his average yearly compensation to $1.75 million.
Brooks expressed gratitude for the support he has received. He credited his success to the talented team around him—coaches, athletes, and staff—who make achievements possible. He emphasized his pride in being part of the Bulldog family.
Under Brooks’ guidance, Georgia Athletics reached impressive milestones this past spring, tying a school record with four national championships, including women’s tennis, track, and equestrian. This marks a historic moment for Georgia football, winning back-to-back SEC championships for the first time since 1980.
Beyond athletics, student-athletes excelled academically, achieving a record GPA of 3.26. They also celebrated individual honors, including the SEC Roy F. Kramer Female Athlete of the Year, awarded to Dasha Vidmanova.
Recent trends in college athletics show a growing emphasis on academic performance alongside sports. A 2022 report from the NCAA highlighted that institutions with strong athletic programs are increasingly prioritizing academic success. This dual focus helps universities cultivate well-rounded individuals.
In sum, Brooks has played a vital role in elevating Georgia Athletics, both on the field and in the classroom. The future looks bright as he and his team continue to push for excellence.
