Destruction of Civilian Infrastructure in Ukraine

Ukraine continues to suffer heavy damage to its civilian infrastructure. Recent airstrikes have hit several areas, contradicting Russia’s claims that it doesn’t target civilians. In Kherson, a high-rise building was struck by a Russian missile, causing part of it to collapse. The local emergency services, known as DSNS, fear some people may still be trapped under the debris. At one point, they had to pause rescue efforts to avoid further attacks.
This tactic of targeting rescue workers is known as “double-tap” and has been employed by Russia in the past. Outside of Kherson, drones also struck civilian homes near Kyiv, according to DSNS reports.
In addition to residential areas, Russian forces have targeted Ukraine’s gas infrastructure. Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated that these attacks aim to disrupt gas supplies critical for heating and daily life. This escalation raises concerns about civilian safety as winter approaches.
The conflict is ongoing and has had devastating impacts on ordinary Ukrainian lives. The destruction of homes and essential services shows the harsh reality of this war, as communities strive to cope amidst the chaos.
