#CAAHoops WBB Notebook – Jan 13
This week in CAA women’s basketball was full of thrilling action! Here are some highlights and key takeaways.
Standout Performance
Zaida Gonzalez from Stony Brook shone brightly with an impressive 37 points against Charleston. This is one of the highest scoring games we’ve seen in the conference in nearly two years. Her performance not only helped her team bounce back from an 11-point deficit but also set a program record for the most points in a single game. Gonzalez was rewarded with her first CAA Weekly honor, a well-deserved recognition for her hard work.
North Carolina A&T’s Dominance
North Carolina A&T is currently the only unbeaten team in CAA play, boasting a 4-0 record after wins against Towson and Delaware. After a rocky start, the Aggies have found their rhythm, winning eight of their last eleven games and have a six-game winning streak going. Jordan Dorsey, averaging 15.7 points per game, is leading the team. Head coach Tarrell Robinson emphasized the importance of their recent victories for building character and confidence.
Campbell’s Big Win
In just one game last weekend, Campbell secured a powerful 72-42 victory over Hampton, marking their first CAA win of the season. This was Campbell’s largest victory margin over a CAA team, thanks to freshman Ciara Alexander’s career-high of 16 points. The Camels also held Hampton to just 20 points in the first half, setting new records for defensive performance.
Offensive Explosion
William & Mary displayed outstanding offensive skills, defeating Monmouth 83-74. The Tribe shot 31 of 65 from the field, recovering after a tough start with seven misses in a row from three-point range. Bella Nascimento and Cassidy Geddes both had career-highs, scoring 27 and 26 points respectively, making significant contributions to the team’s success.
