Ultimate Guide: How to Catch Mimikyu in Pokémon GO – Tips and Tricks!

Mimikyu is finally here in Pokémon Go for the April Fools’ Day 2026 celebration! This quirky Ghost and Fairy-type Pokémon from Generation 7 hides behind a Pikachu costume to make friends, as its true form is a bit spooky.

Many fans were eagerly waiting for Mimikyu’s debut, with hopes it might come out during Halloween. April Fools’ Day is a fun twist because, just like Mimikyu, it likes to play tricks. Let’s dive into how you can catch Mimikyu in the game!

Mimikyu is showing up in the wild during the A Shockingly Good Time event, which wraps up on April 6th at 8 PM (your local time). You can also snag Mimikyu through two specific field research tasks:

  • Catch 3 Pikachu
  • Catch 5 different species of Electric-type Pokémon

To get these tasks, simply spin PokéStops. Keep in mind that the available tasks may change daily, and Mimikyu isn’t the only reward, so you might need to complete these tasks multiple times to catch one.

Another way to catch Mimikyu is to reach Rank 30 on the A Shockingly Good Time Go Pass. Just be sure to hit this rank by April 6th at 8 PM local time. The cool part? From midnight on April 4th to 7:59 PM on April 6th, there’s no limit on Go Points you can earn daily, making it easier to level up quickly!

At this point, it’s best to catch Mimikyu while you can, as we don’t yet know how it will be available after the event ends.

Don’t miss out on the ongoing A Shockingly Good Time event, along with the Egg-cellent Adventure event exclusive to Europe. Keep exploring in Pokémon Go and take advantage of the various activities from the Go Battle League to PokéStop Showcase.

Mimikyu’s Busted Form Explained

Mimikyu has two forms: the typical Disguised Form and the Busted Form. The Busted Form shows the Pikachu disguise hanging limply. This change kicks in when Mimikyu takes a Charged Attack, which means it gets a free hit without losing any shield. But here’s the trade-off: Mimikyu’s Defense will drop for the remainder of the battle, making it more vulnerable to attacks.

This ability is quite handy; you can switch Mimikyu in just at the right time to avoid heavy damage to another Pokémon. Timing is key!

Shiny Mimikyu: What’s the Deal?

As of now, shiny Mimikyu isn’t available in Pokémon Go. Fans hoping to add it to their collections will have to wait a little longer. It’d be exciting to see what Mimikyu looks like as a shiny, given that it tries to mimic Pikachu. A shiny version is expected to have a unique design, possibly featuring more emphasis on its ghostly roots.

When shiny Mimikyu does arrive, it will likely turn heads with its striking black and white design, echoing the retro pixel art of Pikachu from the early Pokémon games. Keep your fingers crossed for a Halloween event, as that might be the best opportunity!

Happy hunting for Mimikyu!
