UPDATE: May 5, 2025, 4:00 p.m. EDT—This story has been updated with the latest on Nintendo Switch 2 preorder availability at major retailers, along with tips to track restocks.
The Nintendo Switch 2 preorders launched in the U.S. in late April, but many missed out. Don’t worry—there’s still hope!
After a brief delay due to tariffs, preorders began on April 24 at major retailers. But it wasn’t long before sites like Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart showed the console as “out of stock.” The $449.99 console is accompanied by a $499.99 Mario Kart World bundle, both of which sold out quickly.
Those fortunate enough to snag a preorder can pick up their consoles on June 5, with midnight launches at Best Buy and GameStop. Walmart promises delivery for preorders made before June 4. We’re waiting to hear from Target about their launch day plans.
Restocks have been sparse. Reports indicate Walmart briefly restocked on April 26, but nothing since. If you’re tempted to refresh retailer pages repeatedly, there are more effective strategies you can use.
Where to Preorder Nintendo Switch 2
Register for Preorders at My Nintendo Store
In May, Nintendo will offer a chance to preorder directly from the My Nintendo Store. Starting May 8, those with an active Nintendo Account can register for invites for a shot at ordering. Your account needs to be over a year old and show at least 50 hours of gameplay to qualify.
Keep in mind, Nintendo warns that high demand may affect release-day deliveries. Some invites might come after June 5, so consider purchasing from retailers for a better chance at launch.
Tracking Restocks Efficiently
Mashable’s Alex Perry suggests signing up for alerts to catch restocks. However, social media can be more effective. Notable accounts like Jake Randall and Matt Swider have proven track records for timely updates. Following Wario64 is also recommended, as he covers various gaming stock updates beyond the Switch 2.
