Guwahati, January 4: Indian Railways is set to launch the first-ever Vande Bharat sleeper train in January 2026, connecting Guwahati and Kolkata. This new overnight service aims to enhance travel between Northeast India and West Bengal, offering a quicker, cozier option compared to traditional trains and pricey flights.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed that tests are complete. The first ride is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This event marks a significant step in modernizing India’s rail system.
Faster Travel from Guwahati to Kolkata
The Vande Bharat Sleeper will cruise at speeds up to 180 km/h, though it may operate at semi-high speeds due to current track conditions.
