Last month, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 hit the market, quickly establishing itself as a leader in the foldable phone arena. But now, Google has entered the fray with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. This phone was the highlight of Google’s recent launch event, which also showcased the new Pixel 10 lineup, a smartwatch, and earbuds.
Samsung debuted its first foldable in 2019, giving it time to refine its design. In contrast, Google introduced its foldable Pixel just a couple of years ago but has managed to catch up fast. A standout feature of the Pixel 10 Pro is its integration with Google’s Gemini AI, offering smart capabilities throughout the device.
When you compare the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to the Z Fold 7, both share similar designs but bring unique features to the table. The biggest question for many consumers is price. The Pixel starts at $1,799, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 begins at $2,000—a noticeable difference that might sway buyers.
In terms of display size, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a slight edge, but not by much. Both phones boast an 8-inch display when opened. However, Samsung offers a 6.5-inch outer display compared to the Pixel’s 6.4 inches. The dimensions are similar, with the Pixel measuring 6.1 inches tall and the Galaxy at 6.2 inches. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a new Super Actua Flex OLED display, offering enhanced durability with Corning Gorilla Glass.
The processor also sets these phones apart. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is powered by Google’s Tensor G5 chip, which boasts 34% better performance than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Z Fold 7 features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, known for its speed and efficiency.
Battery life varies as well; the Pixel 10 Pro Fold can last up to 30 hours on a 5,015mAh battery, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers up to 24 hours with a 4,400mAh battery. Charging options are convenient on both models, with the Pixel introducing a new Qi2 wireless charging feature called “Pixelsnap.”
Camera quality is essential for many users. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes with a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens, all equipped with “Super Res Zoom.” The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 features a stunning 200MP main camera alongside a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto lens. Users have noted that while both cameras perform excellently, the Pixel often excels in color accuracy.
In terms of color options, Samsung wins with a broader selection, offering Mint, Jet Black, Blue Shadow, and Silver Shadow. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold, on the other hand, is available in only Moonstone and Jade.
With so many factors to consider, it’s clear both devices have their strengths. As the smartphone market evolves, the competition between foldable phones is heating up.
