Imagine a world just like ours. The sky is bright, the economy struggles, and something feels off. What’s different? Slay the Spire 2 doesn’t exist here. But in an alternate reality, it could be a game we’re excited about, all thanks to a simple coin flip.
This isn’t a joke. In a recent chat with PC Gamer, Mega Crit co-founder Anthony Giovannetti shared a fascinating story. During the pandemic, he and his teammate Casey Yano were brainstorming their next big project. They had a sequel to Slay the Spire in mind, but they also considered other ideas.
“One day, we just decided to flip a coin,” Giovannetti said. It was a lighthearted way to make a choice. Surprisingly, the coin favored the sequel. “I think Casey would have preferred the other option,” he added. After all, he loves action games while Giovannetti is drawn to card games.
This chance decision captures how creativity sometimes works. The game’s creators took a risk, embracing uncertainty as part of the creative process. It’s interesting to note that making choices through games or even randomness isn’t a new concept. Historically, many artists and famous figures have relied on chance to guide their work.
As we look ahead, Slay the Spire 2 is expected to drop in early access on a “secret Thursday” in March 2026. Gamers are already buzzing about it, sharing excitement on social media and eagerly waiting to add it to their Steam wishlists. You can find it here.
The blend of chance and creativity in game development can remind us that sometimes the most unique ideas come from unexpected places. So when you think about creativity, remember—sometimes it’s not all about planning; a little luck can go a long way.
