The rivalry between Ford Mustangs and Dodge Challengers has been fierce for years. Even though the Challenger is no longer in production, the competition isn’t going away anytime soon. Recently, a noteworthy drag race took place between a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 and a modified Ford Mustang GT by RTR. The Mustang boasted about 750 horsepower, just shy of the $33,995 Spec 3 RTR tune.
With that much power, the Mustang usually has a good edge over many cars. But the Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a different beast entirely. The Mustang finished the quarter-mile in a solid 10.37 seconds at 135 mph. However, the Demon sped across the line nearly a full second faster, clocking in at 9.45 seconds and reaching 145 mph.
Why the Demon Dominates
So, what makes the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 stand out? Launched in 2023, it was touted by Dodge as the most powerful muscle car, with a whopping 1,025 horsepower on E85 fuel. While it can hit 0-60 mph in just 1.66 seconds, it’s still unable to outpace some electric vehicles like the Lucid Air Sapphire.
This immense power comes from its limited production model. The factory-built Demon 170 is designed specifically for drag racing, priced at $96,666. It features a 6.2-liter Hellephant V8 engine with a 3.0-liter supercharger, equipped with factory drag radials. This car is all about speed. On the other hand, the RTR Mustang, while incredibly powerful, is tailored more for the track, excelling on twisting roads rather than just straight lines. It’s akin to bringing a knife to a gunfight, but in this case, it’s more about the tools for the job!
