Where is Judas? That’s a question Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock, often hears. Recently, he shared an update on the PlayStation Blog, admitting that he still doesn’t have a release date. “We’re not quite ready to finalize that,” he explained, but he did share some intriguing insights about the game.
In his latest development update, Levine revealed that Judas does not feature a traditional villain. Instead, players will interact with three key characters known as the “Big 3”. These non-playable characters (NPCs) will offer quests, share secrets, and even gossip about each other. Depending on your choices, one will emerge as the main antagonist, gaining special abilities that can make your journey more challenging.
Levine emphasized the emotional stakes: “We want losing one of them to feel like losing a friend.” The Big 3 will each compete for your trust. They might help you in battle, bribe you for favor, or reveal their darkest secrets. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide who to trust.
Ghost Story Games, the studio behind Judas, also unveiled the game’s key art. It features the Big 3 alongside retro imagery like floppy disks and cassette tapes. Levine mentioned a recent closed playtest and hinted that the final game could include over 100 characters with speaking roles. He teased that the art is packed with meaning, saying, “everything here is relevant.”
Despite hints about its development since 2015 and a trailer release in 2022, it seems Judas is still a long way off. A fall 2026 launch may be optimistic — spring 2027 might be more realistic. Levine acknowledged the challenges of setting a release date, noting, “release dates have a way of slipping by.”
Levine’s strong creative vision and the unique narrative style are both intriguing and demanding. Can Judas meet these high expectations? Questions linger as fans wait to see if it will arrive before BioShock 4.
This anticipation has sparked conversations on social media, with fans sharing their theories and speculations about the game. Insights from forums and gaming community sites indicate that many are looking forward to the deep storytelling and immersive characters Levine is known for.
In a world where video game narratives are evolving rapidly, Judas aims to stand out by prioritizing character-driven choices. As developers push boundaries, Judas could set a new standard in interactive storytelling.
