The Nodaway County Health Department recently conducted inspections of various local food establishments in March. Here’s a summary of their findings.

Kawasaki Motors in Maryville received a high priority inspection on March 4. There were initial concerns about food temperature, but staff quickly corrected the issue. However, they still stored some food boxes near cleaning chemicals, which is something they should address for safety.

Next up was Domino’s Pizza on March 13, which had no major critical issues. Still, the utility closet was a bit cluttered, showing there’s room for improvement in organization.

Senor Burrito, also inspected on March 13, was rated high priority. While there were no critical concerns, they need to fix a torn fridge door and clean up some damage in the restaurant, including peeling paint and dirty floors behind equipment.

Burger King had a medium priority inspection on March 17. Similar to others, they had no critical violations, but spilled soda and a broken light cover were noted, signaling a need for better cleanliness.

Happy Garden was inspected on March 18 with no critical issues found, but they stored some food on the floor, and their vent hood and freezer could use some cleaning.

On March 20, El Maguey passed its inspection without critical violations, but the use of aluminum foil for shelving is not recommended, and they need to fix a door that could invite pests.

In lower priority inspections, The Ministry Center and The Pub were also checked on March 21 and had minor issues, like needing maintenance and better food handling practices.

Recent data from the CDC highlights the importance of food safety, revealing that 1 in 6 Americans get sick from foodborne illnesses each year. This emphasizes the significance of these inspections in keeping our community safe.
