We’ve stumbled upon another case of missing ROPs (Raster Operations Pipeline), this time with the GeForce RTX 5080. This marks the fifth case in just two days, alongside reports for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti. As more users check their GPU specs, it seems like many are discovering their graphics cards might not be performing as advertised.
NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 Faces ROPs Issue
This is the first reported issue with the RTX 5080, launched on January 30. It’s the second-fastest GPU in the RTX 50 series, with a starting price of $999. However, a user on Reddit noticed his RTX 5080 has only 104 ROPs, instead of the promised 112 ROPs.
The screenshot shared by user u/gingeraffe90 shows the missing ROPs issue. This situation has been validated and suggests that NVIDIA may not have fully disclosed the extent of the problem with the RTX 5080.
NVIDIA recently claimed that the only affected models were the RTX 5090/5090D and RTX 5070 Ti, asserting that less than 0.5% of those units had problems. Yet, with this new case involving the RTX 5080, it’s possible we’ll hear about more instances soon.
ROP units are vital for raster performance and influence the Pixel Fillrate. Less ROPs might lead to a noticeable decline in performance. NVIDIA estimates that the difference might be around 4%, which is frustrating for users who paid top dollar for their cards.
This matter needs careful examination. If this issue continues, it could create significant problems for consumers in the GPU market.
