A weather system over the southwest Bay and near Sri Lanka has developed into a depression. As of 6:00 AM Thursday, it’s expected to move north-northwest and intensify further, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In another update, the cyclonic storm ‘Senyar’ that moved through the Strait of Malacca has eased into a deep depression. It is predicted to shift southeast or eastward and will likely weaken gradually.
Maritime ports, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra, have been advised to raise distant cautionary signal no-1 due to the conditions.
As of 9:00 AM Thursday, the depression was located about 2035 km southwest of Chattogram port and similar distances from the other ports mentioned. The maximum sustained wind speed around the deep depression is around 50 kph, with gusts reaching 60 kph. This means the sea will be rough near the center of the depression.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay are advised to stay close to shore until further notice.
For the next 24 hours from 9:00 AM Thursday, the weather across the country is likely to be mostly dry with occasional clouds. Temperatures are expected to remain steady.
