Most Gravity-Defying Opener: ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took the stage at the Oscars to perform songs from “Wicked.” Fans expected this, and they weren’t disappointed. But the duo added a twist. They honored other famous interpretations of Oz. Ariana dazzled in a sparkling red gown, singing “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.” Then, she passed the spotlight to Erivo, who delivered “Home” from “The Wiz,” a beloved number originally performed by Diana Ross. They wrapped up their performance with “Defying Gravity,” showcasing Erivo’s powerful vocals. Later, Queen Latifah returned to Oz with a spirited rendition of “Ease on Down the Road,” celebrating Quincy Jones.
Most Dominant Night: Sean Baker
Director Sean Baker made waves at the Oscars with his film “Anora.” In the past, his works like “The Florida Project” and “Red Rocket” had hints of Oscar success but missed out. This year, however, he achieved a remarkable feat, winning four Oscars in editing, directing, original screenplay, and best picture. This achievement tied him with the legendary Walt Disney. While Baker’s films aren’t exactly family-friendly, his unique storytelling has found a place in the spotlight.
Best Host for the Moment: Conan O’Brien
Conan O’Brien approached the night with a mix of nerves and excitement. He kicked things off with a funny segment featuring Demi Moore and quickly transitioned into his opening monologue. Throughout the evening, Conan entertained the audience with witty jabs at Hollywood, even poking fun at the iconic sandworm from “Dune.” His fun and energetic presence brought a light-hearted vibe to the ceremony.
