The 2025-26 swimming and diving season at Boston University has been a remarkable one. Both the men’s and women’s teams improved their scores more than any other school at the Patriot League Championships this year.
Throughout the dual season, both teams displayed great competition, finishing with a 6-3 record. Each loss was tough, with close matches that could have gone either way.
The Terrier Invitational in the fall marked a fantastic end to the season. The men’s team closed the gap on Boston College, finishing second with just a 140-point difference. Meanwhile, the women’s team claimed the meet title for the first time since 2018.
One standout moment was freshman Alayna Kennedy being named the Patriot League Diver of the Year. She made history as the first freshman to win all diving events at the championships and the first Terrier to achieve this since 2010.
The men’s team had its first relay podium finish since 2019, securing bronze in the 800 freestyle relay, while junior Zein Mahana took bronze in the 3-meter dive, marking the first time a men’s diver made it to the PL podium in a decade. The women’s 400 medley relay achieved its highest finish ever, taking silver.
Overall, BU had an impressive 12 podium finishes, netting 8 All-Patriot League honors—the most since 2017. They improved their women’s score by 187 points compared to last year and men’s by an even larger margin of 309.5 points, showcasing their growth.
Throughout the season, the team set 10 new school records and broke 3 pool records, achieving a combined 50 top-10 times—33 for the men and 17 for the women. Notably, 14 of the women’s top times and 24 of the men’s came from freshmen or sophomores, highlighting a bright future ahead.
Experts note that the team’s success reflects a strong culture of support and talent development at BU. The coaching staff was honored with Coaching Staffs of the Year for both swimming and diving.
In the midst of this progress, social media buzzes with positivity. Fans and alumni celebrate the achievements with hashtags like #TerrierPride, showcasing their excitement and community spirit.
This season has not only created a lasting impact on the school’s history but also raised expectations for the coming years as all of the record-setting talent is set to return.
