Golf Tournament Draws Alumni for a Day of Fun and Fundraising
Buies Creek, N.C. – The atmosphere was electric at Keith Hills Golf Club as a record 36 teams took part in the annual Battle at the Creek tournament. Players enjoyed tackling 27 holes while reconnecting with old friends and showcasing their skills.
Among the participants were 23 Campbell Golf alumni and several esteemed members of the Campbell Hall of Fame. The tournament also featured athletes from various NCAA regional events, along with three members of the 1970 Campbell NAIA national championship team.
The event was not just about golf; it raised over $17,000 to support the Campbell men’s and women’s golf teams. This year, the tournament’s spirit shone through as current players had the chance to meet alumni and engage with supporters from the community.
Todd Harris from the class of ’82 led his team to victory in the overall category, with the winning score being 48. In the Orange flight, alumni dominated as well, with Sam Brewer, Julian Bunn, Jim Gurkin, and Johnny Williams taking the top spot.
A brief look at the winners shows a mix of young talents and seasoned players. For example, the team that won the Black flight, made up of Matt Dengler, Jake Lane, Spencer Cole, and Eric Hall, scored a solid 51. On the other hand, the White flight champions, the Koslowsky family, finished with a score of 57.
Hole competitions added excitement to the day. Notable performances included:
- Women’s Long Drive: Jennifer Layman
- Men’s Long Drive: Brendan Koslowsky
- Men’s Closest to the Pin: Shawn Ricker and Ryan Hirsh
The tournament also featured a unique award for the “Longest to Travel Golfer,” which went to Jennifer Layman from Canada.
This sense of community is not uncommon in sports events like this. A recent survey showed that 85% of participants in charity tournaments feel a stronger connection to their alma mater, creating bonds that last beyond college. Tournaments promote camaraderie while also funding essential team activities.
