Union Budget Aims to Transform India into a Global Healthcare Hub, Says Prathap Reddy

Prathap C. Reddy, the chairman of Apollo Hospitals, shared his thoughts on the 2025 Union Budget. He believes this budget will help India emerge as a leader in advanced healthcare and medical innovation.

Dr. Reddy highlighted the addition of 75,000 new medical seats over the next five years and the establishment of Centres of Excellence in artificial intelligence as key steps to boost healthcare research and innovation. He reflected on the significant progress India has made in healthcare since the 1980s.

He also pointed out the budget’s focus on promoting medical tourism through partnerships with the private sector. This initiative aims to attract international patients and position India as a top destination for affordable, high-quality medical care under the ‘Heal in India’ mission.

Additionally, Dr. Reddy praised the plan to create 200 daycare cancer centers in district hospitals and efforts to make essential medicines for rare diseases and cancer more affordable. He believes these initiatives will tackle major health challenges and reduce costs for patients.

Upskilling healthcare workers is another priority for Dr. Reddy, with plans for new National Centres of Excellence and 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs. He emphasized that simplifying regulations for health-tech startups will encourage the development of new medical solutions.

The steps outlined in the budget reflect a strong commitment to advancing healthcare in India.
