DOWNTOWN — Uniqlo is set to welcome shoppers at its brand-new flagship store on the Magnificent Mile this Friday, almost five years after closing its previous location.
In 2021, Uniqlo shut its doors at 830 N. Michigan Ave. This closure was part of a larger trend, with many retailers leaving the area during the pandemic. However, the brand announced its return in 2025, promising a vibrant new spot at 600 N. Michigan Ave. as part of an ambitious U.S. expansion plan that includes 11 new stores. You can read more about it here.
Shoppers have eagerly awaited the store’s reopening, which will kick off at 10 a.m. this Friday. To celebrate, Uniqlo is giving away special goodies from Friday to Sunday. The first 500 visitors each day will snag a free custom Garrett Popcorn tin, along with popcorn, a pastry, and tea from Ravenswood’s Del Sur Bakery. Plus, customers who spend $99 or more will take home a free Chicago-themed tote bag.
During the grand opening, get ready for some lively entertainment. Traditional Japanese taiko drum performances will happen throughout the day, adding a festive touch. Notably, customers will also have access to the Roger Federer Collection and exclusive discounts on clothing items unique to this location.
This new store will showcase special merchandise designed by local artists like JC Rivera, Louis De Guzman, Elena Fiorenza, and aplasticplant, in collaboration with the Art Institute of Chicago. These exclusive items celebrate the city’s rich culture and creativity.
After the opening, the store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
As retail continues to adapt in the post-pandemic world, experts note that the revival of flagship stores like Uniqlo’s is crucial for urban shopping districts. According to a recent report by McKinsey & Company, urban retail is expected to see a resurgence as consumers return to in-person shopping experiences, which some describe as a “retail renaissance.” This highlights the importance of unique, engaging shopping destinations that offer more than just products.
With anticipation buzzing on social media, many are excited to experience how Uniqlo blends global fashion with local culture in its new Chicago location.
