On March 14, 2025, a wonderful achievement was celebrated at Princeton University. Thanks to a committed team of volunteers from campuses and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), the community raised an impressive total of $98,432.38 during the 2024 United Way Campaign. These funds are crucial for supporting programs focused on education, financial stability, health, and fighting food insecurity in Greater Mercer County.
Here’s how the campaign came together:
- Community Involvement: Forty-four employees volunteered from over 25 different departments, showing a strong commitment to the cause. They not only held fundraising events but also organized supply drives to directly support the local United Way initiatives.
- Generous Contributions: Faculty, staff, and retirees contributed $77,185 in total. This included $64,660 from the main campus, $5,100 from PPPL, and $7,425 from retirees.
- Matching Gifts: The University contributed an additional $10,457.30 through matching gifts, providing 15 cents for every dollar donated through payroll deductions and 10 cents for other contributions.
- Direct Support: Employees had the option to allocate their donations directly to United Way programs, helping initiatives like the Strike Out Hunger campaign, educational supplies for local children, and resources for expectant parents.
- Community Focus: All donations will go towards United Way programs in Mercer County or other designated health and human services, ensuring the impact is felt widely.
This campaign is more than just fundraising; it’s a powerful reminder of how community effort can drive significant change. According to a recent survey by the National Philanthropic Trust, nearly 70% of Americans believe it’s important to support local charities, especially in challenging times. Engaging employees in meaningful causes not only helps communities but fosters a sense of belonging and purpose.
By joining forces for this cause, Princeton’s community showcases how collective action can uplift those in need. Let’s continue to champion such initiatives that help make a real difference in our lives.
