University of Cincinnati’s Bold Move: Transforming Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Efforts with New Initiatives

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The University of Cincinnati is updating its approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in response to new legislation. President Neville G. Pinto shared the changes in a message to students and staff, emphasizing the university’s commitment to foster connections and education.

Effective June 25, the university will undergo several significant changes to align with the Enhance Ohio Higher Education Act, introduced by Governor Mike DeWine. Here’s what will happen:

• The central Equity & Inclusion office will be closed.
• All four identity centers will be shut down.
• The Center for Student Involvement will move to the area currently housing Ethnic Programs & Services, the LGBTQ Center, and the Women’s Center.
• The African American Cultural & Resource Center will be renamed "The Cultural Center."

Pinto engaged in open forums with students and staff before making these decisions, focusing on feedback from those most affected. He acknowledged that these changes might be difficult for some, stating, "You belong here."
