The Denver Pioneers hockey team is on the rise, now ranked No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 7 in the USA Hockey rankings. This comes after a weekend of mixed results: they celebrated a strong 7-3 victory against then-No. 9 Boston College but were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Northeastern.
In the rankings, Michigan State holds the top position, while Michigan has surged ahead of Western Michigan to claim second place. Both Michigan teams won their recent home games, with Western Michigan slipping to third by a slim margin. Penn State climbed to No. 4 after sweeping their weekend games, and Boston University dropped to No. 5.
Notably, the NCHC conference leads all leagues with four teams in the top 10 of the USCHO.com rankings. Other ranked teams from the NCHC include North Dakota at No. 8, Minnesota Duluth at No. 10, and Colorado College at No. 15. Arizona State, Miami, Omaha, and St. Cloud State also received votes.
This week, the Pioneers host Alaska Anchorage at Magness Arena for Homecoming Weekend. Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. MT, while Saturday’s match begins at 6 p.m. MT. Both games will be available on NCHC.tv, with Friday’s broadcast on Altitude 2 and Saturday’s also viewable in Canada on TSN+.
The USCHO.com poll is compiled weekly by 50 voters, including coaches and media from across the nation. The USA Hockey poll, conducted in partnership with the American Hockey Coaches Association, gathers input from coaches and journalists from all six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences.
In recent discussions among fans on social media, many praised the team’s performance and showed excitement for the upcoming games. This support reflects how hockey unites the community, especially during such high-stakes seasons.
