Sara Rask Shines in Alpine Skiing
Sara Rask, a standout graduate student from the University of Denver ski team, has been awarded the RMISA Most Valuable Skier in women’s alpine slalom for the 2026 season. This marks her fifth MVP award from the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association, and she’s already made a name for herself in slalom, having won this honor in 2023 and 2025 as well.
Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Sara ended the RMISA regular season impressively, earning five top-five finishes and accumulating 185 points across six slalom races. She dominated at Loveland Ski Area during the Denver and Colorado Invitationals, securing first place in both slalom events. Sara also clinched the top spot in the RMISA Alpine Qualifier in Montana.
In total, she made the top five in 10 out of 12 races this season, boasting five wins and eight podium results. With 20 career victories, she now holds the program’s all-time wins record for giant slalom—a remarkable achievement set during the Alpine Qualifier in Utah.
Rask is also the defending NCAA National Champion in both women’s slalom and giant slalom, having swept the alpine races last year at Dartmouth Skiway in New Hampshire. Throughout her collegiate career, she has consistently performed at a high level, finishing in the top 20 in all 50 races she has completed, with 48 of those in the top 10. Her impressive statistics include 35 podium finishes and 41 top-five results.
In addition to Rask’s achievements, other athletes recognized this season include Colorado’s Louison Accambray for the women’s alpine giant slalom and Filip Wahlqvist for men’s giant slalom. Notably, Utah’s Johs Herland earned accolades in men’s slalom, while Nordic categories featured recognition for Erica Laven, Simon Chappaz, Tilde Baangman, and Storm Pedersen.
As the 2026 NCAA Championships approach, set for March 11-14 in Utah, excitement builds for the alpine events at Olympic Park in Park City and Nordic competitions at Soldier Hollow. Rask’s stellar performance this season has garnered attention, and she remains a key player to watch as the championships unfold.
With the growing popularity of collegiate skiing, fans and future athletes are increasingly engaged. Trends on social media show more young people sharing their skiing experiences, inspired by athletes like Rask. This involvement highlights a broader interest in winter sports, reflecting how success can motivate others in the skiing community.
